Artist Callout: SikhRI’s art exhibit celebrates 550th Prakash Purab.

Vahiguru ji ka Khalsa, Vahiguru ji ki Fatih!

As many of you know, 2019 would be the 550th Prakash Purab (Illumination Day) of Guru Nanak Sahib. To celebrate his legacy, SikhRI is organizing a special art exhibition, in which you are encouraged to participate.

The artist does not look at things just as they are; the artist’s calling is to help us perceive, in nature and human life, what the physical eye can never discern.

— Inni Kaur, SikhRI CEO

Our vision for the exhibition is to create art that not just illustrates, but illuminates. For this purpose, we ask all of you to let us know if they would like to participate in this exhibit. The art we are seeking is non-portrait-based flowing from the Sabads or Sakhis of Guru Nanak Sahib. Not mere depictions, but the kind of art that’s reimagined, inventive, metaphorical, inspired, and inspirational — something to elevate both thought and spirit.

The artist's role is not to merely put on canvas what anyone can see but to show something we have not seen, to interpret, to teach.

— Inni Kaur

If you are interested in participating in the exhibition, please submit your application by the deadline. To apply, please email info@sikhri.org with your full name and the city and country you live in.

Application deadline: October 19, 2018

In preparing for the exhibition, we are hosting an orientation via video conference where you will have a unique one-on-one opportunity to learn about the vision and the theme for this art exhibit with Inni Kaur and Harinder Singh, SikhRI’s Senior Fellow of Research & Policy.
