In the enchanting melody of Dhanasari, a rag that evokes happiness, Guru Arjan Sahib weaves a Sabad that transcends the realms of joy and spiritual connection.

In the enchanting melody of Dhanasari, a rag that evokes happiness, Guru Arjan Sahib weaves a Sabad that transcends the realms of joy and spiritual connection. Dhanasari, originating from northern India and prominent in classical music, provides a canvas that harmonizes with the mood of cheerfulness.

The Sabad commences with a profound invocation – the cooling of body, mind, and bosom through the continuous remembrance of the Divine Owner. This remembrance transforms the very essence of the being, where beauty, color, comfort, wealth, and caste are identified with the Transcendent. The assertion echoes a profound shift in perspective, recognizing the Divine as the source and essence of all aspects of existence.

The imagery of the tongue intoxicated with the nectar of the Charmer-Divine portrays a state of divine intoxication. Colored in the Charmer-Divine Love-Color, the Lotus-Feet becomes an abundant treasure.

The Sabad continues with a sense of divine protection and guidance. Recognizing that the Divine offers perfect protection to whom one belongs becomes a cornerstone of trust. The assertion that the Comfort-Giver unites and the All-Pervasive protects honor emphasizes the benevolence and safeguarding nature of the Divine.

This Sabad invites the listener into a space of joy and spiritual contemplation, where the heart's humbleness becomes the key to unlocking the treasures of divine remembrance and protection.

Body, mind and bosom cooled by remembering, remembering, my Owner Divine.
My being’s beauty, color, comfort, wealth and caste, is the Transcendent. 1.

Tongue intoxicated with Charmer-Divine’s nectar,
Colored in Love-Color of my Charmer-Divine,
the Lotus-Feet¹ becomes the abundant treasure. Reflect.

To whom I belong, protected me, perfect is the Divine’s way.
Nanak: Comfort-Giver united me, All-Pervasive protected the honor.  2.

1 Humility

About Sabad of the Week

We are finite; our understanding is finite. Our understanding was different yesterday and may evolve tomorrow as we deepen our relationship with the Sabad. In this trans-creation, we have chosen to keep the repeating words in the Sabad same. We aspire to learn and retain the Divine attribute used in the original Sabad and avoid terms like God or Lord.

No More Blue Stars

In recent years, diasporic Sikhs have been moving to consciously avoid using the terms Operation Blue Star or Holocaust and instead use terms like the Battle of Amritsar, genocide, or Ghallughara when speaking about June and November 1984.
