On Gurgaddi Divas we reflect on the lessons we continue to learn from Guru Harikrishan Sahib & Guru Eternal Guru Granth Sahib.

It is the Gurgaddi Divas (coronation day) of Guru Harikrishan Sahib as well as the Guru-Eternal Guru Granth Sahib.

Guru Harikrishan Sahib led the community during one of the most uncertain times rife with political domination and deceit of the detractors within the family and community. The Guru-Figure graciously steered the Sikh sangam (community) by setting an example in community organizing as well as public service during his reign. He served the plague afflicted people of Delhi so selflessly that he himself contracted it.

Events in the Gurus’ lives such as these, inspire new heights of conviction and urge us to explore our inner calling with more vigor.

The sangam sustained this direction and momentum the Guru gave, for the Tenth Sovereign Guru Gobind Singh Sahib gifted the wisdom of Sabad-Guru and bestowed eternal Guru Granth Sahib along with the Guru Khalsa Panth.

Sabad guides us in every aspect of life and provides us an opportunity to genuinely seek solutions and create a dignified, just and open society based on love and compassion.

We at SikhRI continue to look for innovative ways to make Gurmat (the Guru’s Way), accessible to every Sikh, by providing educational resources to lead a Guru-inspired life.

This coming year, please consider sharing you dasvandh with SikhRI, so that we may continue to provide the sangam with the teachings of Sikhi and strengthen the bonds of the global Sikh community by offering courses and seminars in a variety of mediums.

Please accept our heartfelt greetings on the gurgaddi divas of Guru Harikrishan Sahib and Guru Granth Sahib.

No More Blue Stars

In recent years, diasporic Sikhs have been moving to consciously avoid using the terms Operation Blue Star or Holocaust and instead use terms like the Battle of Amritsar, genocide, or Ghallughara when speaking about June and November 1984.
