“Sidak not only made me proud of being a Sikh but it also helped me understand my Sikh culture and bring back my spirit.”
“There
were many things I liked about Sidak. Most importantly I learned a
lot, before I came to Sidak. I wasn’t into Sikhi that much, but
now I am proud to be a Sikh. All the Teachers & Volunteers were
nice and made me feel at home. I love the evening activities we had,
especially frisbee. I liked how all the volunteers and peers were
open to each other. I would recommend Sidak to everyone. Not only do
you have fun, but you also learn alot.”
“The program helped
me look at Sikhi in a new way. Sidak helped me realize that I needed
to start thinking like a Sikh. The main thing I will take from Sidak
is the desire to develop myself as a Sikh and as a human being.
Sidak has helped me have greater love and appreciation for Sikhi.
Sidak gives you tools for effective personal development and growth
as a Sikh.”
“I
liked the fact we were driven to do so much work that it helped us
educationally & set us up with study tools that we can us in our
own courses. I really liked the community aspect where we met
together for divans, rehraas & even the cleaning. It gave us a
chance to get to know each other out side the classroom setting. It
was amazing how we all got the chance to do Kirten, learn Asa Ki Var,
read Hukamnama, and do Maharaj’s Parkash & Sukhassan. The
amount of information covered in the two weeks was phenomenal &
I was impressed by all the variety of subjects we covered.
“I
really enjoyed the overall attitude here at Sidak. Everyone (Hosts,
Teachers, Sangat) was always really energetic and passionate about
this program. The teachers were intensely animated to everything
they taught and that made classes interesting. The Sangat here
opened up their arms to us all and I hardly felt homesick. The
intensive learning and dialogue made me look into myself at how can
I be a better Sikh and how can I apply what I have learned to my
name Sangat and community. The most important thing though was the
amount of LOVE everyone here had for us and each other, learning and
most importantly Sikhi. This constant feeling was in the atmosphere
and kept me very motivated through everything, intense frisbee
games, waking up early, and all the struggles of learning. I’ve
learned to practice introspection and that I have the power to
change myself. I have felt I learned externally about Sikhi and
internally about myself.”
Though I’m not the ideal Sikh, I can work at it, hope
exists. Take Sikhi one step at a time. Learned my first Shabad!!!
Friendship with great Sikhs. So much knowledge, now I feel that I
will be more prepared whenever I have to represent the Sikh
community in public.
