  Sojhī
      Summary

The goal of the Sojhī project is to improve the effectiveness of Sikh education by developing high standards of learning with comprehensive teaching materials. The objectives of this project include:

Improved and effective Gurmat and Pañjābī school education

Relevant course material and curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12 (K-12)

Instructors equipped with consistent syllabi and course material along with effective teaching mechanisms.

676 instructional hours will be developed (13 grades, 26 sessions a year, 2 classes of 1 hr each).  To develop the Sojhī curriculum, standards and benchmarks for the content areas need to be established. This will be followed by objectives with suggestions for differentiating instruction, assessments, and integrating the curriculum with links to other content areas for grade levels K-12. The lesson plans will be developed in three phases:

• Elementary (K-5) – Phase I
• Middle School (6-8) – Phase II
• High School (9-12) – Phase III

The Sikh Research Institute through a careful process has planned to develop standards and a curriculum for K-12 and lesson plans for K-5 in the following content areas:

Language Arts

·  Contemporary Pañjābī

·  Gurmukhī Script and Grammar

Sikh Virsā

·  Theology:  Principles and Application

·  History:  From 1469 to Present

·  Arts:  Art Appreciation, Musicology, Martial Arts, etc.

Leadership and communication skills will be fostered and developed through the course activities, content, and material.
