What's happening?
The 2nd Sikh Educational Symposium that will highlight months of work on education tools for teachers and students of Kindergarten to Grade 12.

When?
8:30am – 6 pm | 17 June 2006

Who should attend?
Educators, counselors, curriculum developers, Gurmat and Pańjābī school teachers, administrators, and sponsors.

What is the Sojhī Project?
Sojhī project is a venture to improve the effectiveness of Sikh education (Language Arts & Sikh Virsā) by developing high standards of learning with comprehensive teaching materials for K-12 Sikh students.

What will I gain from the symposium?
You will have an opportunity to network with others in your field. You will be able to understand the curriculum package better. You will be better prepared to implement the curriculum

Where will I stay?
You can request the symposium host to arrange a stay with local family. Otherwise, you will have to make your own stay arrangements.

Will I be allowed to attend only part of the symposium?
It is highly recommended that you attend the entire symposium since the development of workshops are carefully planned to flow throughout the day.

Why is there a registration cost?
It allows the organizers to cover the expenses for the venue, speakers, and food (light breakfast, lunch, and snacks).

What is the relationship of the Host with the Sojhī project?
Guru Angad Institute of Sikh Studies is a sponsor of the Sojhī project and will be implementing the Sojhī curriculum at their school in September 2006. For more information, please visit www.guruangadinstitute.org.

What is the Sikh Research Institute?
The Sikh Research Institute is a nonprofit, non-government organization seeking to develop a principle-driven community by protecting the core and enlarging the resource pool. The Institute’s mission is to facilitate training and development while inspiring Sikh values, create global awareness of Sikhī, and deliver solutions to the key challenges faced by the Sikh community. All donations are 501(c)(3) tax-deductible.

Who was involved in the development process?
A team of educators (teachers, subject experts, etc.) were involved in the development of material. The external reviews were made by experts in Sikhī and Curriculum Development.

Do I get to take a package back with me?
If you are a sponsor of the Sojhī project you will be given your package at the symposium. It will be available to non-sponsors at a cost to be determined based on the project development cost for Phase I (Elementary School) and projections for Phase II (Middle School) and III (High School).

When will this project be ready for implementation?
Following a series of trainings in July and August, Gurmat and Pańjābī Schools can implement Phase I (Elementary School) in September 2006.

Where can this project be implemented?
This project can be implemented at Gurmat and Pańjābī Schools, Charter Schools, Public Schools, other Supplementary Schools, and for home schooling.
