Gurmat Sangīt Darbār was held at the Milford Gurduārā Sāhib, the principal Boston area gurduārā on 29 & 30 October 2005. This was sponsored by New England Sikh Study Circle. The Guest of Honor was Bhāī Harbhajan Singh, son of a great and exponent of Kīrtan Bhāī Samund Singh, who has made significant contributions to Gurmat Sangīt by keeping alive the tradition passed down to him by his father, while pursuing a professional career in the United States. The following Kīrtanīās participated:
Sher JB Singh presented ‘Introduction to Sikh Musicology’ workshop which focused on the music (terminology, development and elements) and its usage within the Sikh fold thru its demonstration (kīrtanīas, styles, school and traditions). The instruments of Gurmat Sangīt were displayed by the courtesy of Gurū Angad Institute of Sikh Studies. A documentary entitled ‘Sāz of Gurmat Sangīt’ was shown which focused on the revival efforts of the Kīrtan Paramparā on Sikh musical instruments. It is directed by Harpreet Kaur and was an official selection of the 2005 Spinning Wheel Film Festival. This was the courtesy of Sach Productions.
