In defining our resource production goals for the next year, SikhRI has moved into the next steps of completing a 40-page full color booklet on Sikhi. It will be made available for use in training and education scenarios for non-Sikh populations, such as schools, universities, corporations, and government agencies. We feel strongly that having an in-depth educational resource like this readily available for any organization seeking to learn more about Sikhs and Sikhi is vitally important.

Many people have already donated to help produce this booklet, and we are deeply grateful for those contributions. We still need to raise about $2000 to cover the costs associated with design and the final stages of content editing. If you are interested in supporting this project, please donate today in any amount you are able. Every dollar counts.

To learn more about the project please visit this project's page on Dasvandh Network, an online platform established to motivate a surge in activism and giving within the Sikh community.

Sojhi School Pilot

On 7 September, Sikh Research Institute Canada and the Sojhi School held an orientation for parents and children interested in enrolling a pilot phase of weekly classes using Sojhi curriculum.
Starting this Friday, Anu Kaur Ball will teach classes to 23 students, ages 4-10, while their parents meet for a discussion session separately on topics centered around Sikhi and families. The pilot phase will run until December. With the support and interest of the local community, the staff and volunteers of Sikh Research Institute Canada could not be happier or more excited to initiate this pilot phase of Sojhi into our Panjabi school routine, said Lali Pawa, BC Coordinator for SikhRI Canada. One of the aspects of Sojhi that makes it most attractive, is that it encourages parents and families to be involved in the curriculum experience.”

Interfaith Events

In light of the August shooting at a gurduara in Wisconsin and the eleventh anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, members of SikhRI staff and board participated in an interfaith panel held at the Garden State Gurdwara in New Jersey. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Baha'is and Jews joined Sikhs to discuss the nuances of their individual faiths, and the ways that each faith could work together in order to support each other and to prevent further violence as a result of intolerance or ignorance. You can read coverage of the event from a local newspaper.

On 19 September, Harinder Singh also spoke on invitation from the Sikh Student Association at Rutgers University at an educational and remembrance vigil held in memory of the victims of the Wisconsin violence. You can read coverage of the vigil in the Daily Targum.

On 15 September creators of resources for Sikh children presented a panel Liv Webinar: Ik Chota First Sikh Books, moderated by SikhRI's Director of Education, Jasmine Kaur. Inni Kaur, author of Journey with the Gurus, Parveen Kaur Dhillon, author of My First Sikh Books, Jagdeep Singh, creator of Ik Chota Bacha & Other Sikh Nursery Rhymes, and Navjot Kaur, author of A Lion's Mane, discussed for almost two hours the current state of development and use of resources in the Sikh community for young Sikh children.
