Nurturing One Sikh Child at a Time

Sikh Research Institute has hosted four Sikh Education Conferences over the years, each with a unique theme in a different area of the country. The Conferences are comprised of multiple sessions led by influential and innovative professionals in the field of Sikh education. Each theme tackles an issue of prominent importance to teachers, administrators, curriculum developers, and parents who are striving to make Sikhi education as accessible and exciting as possible.

Sikh Education Conference 2011
"Sikh Education: What? When? How?"

"More than 50 educators from across the New England-area, Eastern Canada, and California gathered for the 4 th Sikh Education Conference, “Sikhi Education: What? When? How?” hosted by Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI). Educators spent the afternoon attending workshops and seminars, meeting with others in the field, and picking up new tools, resources, and ideas. Whether they were starting their first year, or were veterans in a classroom, there was something for everyone on the conference schedule. "This was the first time I was able to attend this type of conference and am so happy that I did,” said Kuldip Samra. “Having just started being a teacher for our very young 3 and 4 year olds it was very insightful and helpful for me to learn how to be a good teacher.”

Sikh Education Conference 2009
"Sikh Education: Roadmap for the Next Decade"

As the packed conference hall took a break, side conversations continued to excitedly flow about topics like "The Importance of Language Education‟, "Engaging Teenagers‟, "School Bullying‟, "Teaching Experiences‟ & "Mental Health n the School Setting‟. While these sound like the topics of an established best practices in education convention, these conversations marked the first time Sikhs across North America came together in an open forum to discuss issues related to K-12 Sikhi Education and establish a network linking together Khalsa School teachers, administrators, mental health professionals, and parents across USA & Canada.
