“Sidak is a space to think critically about everything we do + about the world around us, just as the Gurus did. I appreciated this approach to Sikhi that is non-dogmatic, non-preachy, and non judgmental. Sidak could be seen as a training ground for the 21st century Sikh Revolution.”
— Sundeep Singh, Brooklyn, NY
“From now on, I will look at Gurbani with a critical eye. I will strive to understand Gurbani by breaking apart sentences and interpreting it in my own words (not sikhi to the max). Then I will think and evaluate how I can apply the Gurbani to my life.” — Gurneet K Bawa, Potomac, MD

Junior Sidak
2011 marked the first year that SikhRI offered an official “Junior Sidak” program to coincide with the Sidak leadership development retreat, and we are pleased to announce we will offer it again in 2012. This program allows families to bring their children with them to San Antonio, where they enjoy a safe, comfortable, stimulating environment Monday through Friday during the time their parents are involved in classroom sessions (8am- 12pm). Junior Sidak is open to children aged 2-8, and provides a truly unique social and educational experience for little ones!
Trained educators along with assistants from the local Texas Sangat run the Junior Sidak sessions, where the hours are filled with arts and crafts, songs, engaging games, and nature walks through the retreat site. There are also classroom lessons on Sikhi topics which aim to build strong, confident Sikhs from a young age, with a special emphasis on strengthening Gurmukhi and Panjabi skills.
We are encouraging any families considering making the trip to Sidak in 2012 to be in touch with Director of Education and Sidak Coordinator Jasmine Kaur as soon as possible, so we can answer any questions and provide more details as requested! You can email her at: jasmine.kaur@sikhri.org.
