EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Job Description

The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization
seeking to develop a principle-driven community by protecting the core values and
enlarging the resource pool. SikhRI’s mission is to facilitate training and development
while inspiring Sikh values, create global awareness of Sikhi, and deliver strategic
solutions to the key challenges faced by the Sikh community. SikhRI is currently seeking
to fill the position of an Executive Director. The successful candidate will lead SikhRI and
be responsible for providing direction to the staff.   The primary task will be raising funds
(70%) followed by administration (30%).  S/he will work closely with the Board and the
Chief Programming Officer to further the mission of SikhRI.   Annual salary range will
commensurate with experience.  Benefits include vacation, holidays, sickdays and
insurance (medical, LTD, STD, Life & Accidental).

Qualifications
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrates both imagination and creativity in the areas of fundraising
    and implements appropriate solutions
  • Highly organized person who is able to meet deadlines and handle multiple
    tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work well independently and in collaboration with other members of
    a small and dedicated team
  • Demonstrates commitment to SikhRI’s mission and goals
  • Demonstrates effectiveness and lead experience in fund development
  • Knowledge of communications and media relations helpful
  • Bachelor's degree or its equivalent in work experience; must be fluent in
    Panjabi as well
  • Excellent computer skills in MS Office and database programs
Major Responsibilities
  • Development:   Develops fundraising strategy; Raise annual and endowment funds;
    Maintain relationship with Donors; Manage all grant writing; May conduct research and
    assist in fundraising goals; Directs staff assistance with fundraising efforts.
  • Finance:   Prepares annual budget with input from staff and accounting department
    (depending on size of the organization); Oversees preparation of periodic financial
    reports; Implements proper financial controls. 
  • Legal:   Must provide information to the Board to demonstrate that the organization
    is well managed; Compiles information for annual filing requirements; Signals if
    either of these situations is likely to occur. 
  • Collateral:   Directs communication and visibility activities on website, newsletter,
    press releases, and other materials which publicize programs 
  • Planning: Develops specific program goals and objectives based on the board-specified mission;
    Develops reports or oversees staff development of reports to demonstrate program progress. 
  • Personnel  : Implements personnel polices; Hires and evaluates performance of staff members
    (or delegated to appropriate supervisor).
