ADMINISTRATOR

JOB DESCRIPTION
  

The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization focused on developing educational resources for Sikhs to foster a Guru-inspired lifestyle. SikhRI is currently seeking to fill the position of Administrator in Somerset Country, New Jersey. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all day to day office handling for SikhRI's office and will report to the Executive Director (ED) and work closely with the entire SikhRI team. The Administrator will also interface with external agencies/associations, including vendors and work on contracts, sponsorships and donations. This is initially a full-time "virtual" or "telecommuting" post but will convert to a full-time on-site position. Compensation package (salary and benefits) will be commensurate with experience. 

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Administrator will provide general administrative support to the SikhRI team. Will engage in routine and complex document preparation, including agenda preparation, and coordination for assigned projects, file management, scheduling/arranging meetings, travel arrangements, expense reporting and ordering office supplies. Critically reviews and proofs documents. Receives and refers visitors and telephone calls, answering routine questions. Opens, sorts, prioritizes and distributes incoming communications via mail / email / fax and telephone; responding to routine requests. Exercises independent discretion and judgment, and brings to management attention the complex problems. A good working knowledge of company operations and organization is required. A professional demeanor, an ability to appropriately handle highly confidential information and excellent interpersonal skills are also required.

KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of an Undergraduate  Degree is required. 2-3 years of administrative support and/or secretarial experience is required in a corporate environment. Candidate must possess the ability to process a high volume activity, problem solve, have strong organizational skills and excellent judgment while handling sensitive and confidential information. Proven written and oral communications expertise is required, including proficiency in spelling, punctuation and grammar. Intermediate proficiency in Power Point, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Outlook is required. Data entry experience using QuickBooks or Salesforce.com and experience in using Live Meeting, global connect, or other audio/web/video conferencing system like Skype / GoToMeeting / GoToWebinar is preferred.

Candidate must possess a high level of initiative and must be able to work well in a team environment as well as independently. Must be able to determine the appropriate method for communicating succinctly and clearly to others, depending on the situation, while maintaining a professional tone at all times. Must be able to anticipate workload peaks and have the ability and flexibility in schedule to provide additional support when needed. Must demonstrate great attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to multi-task, and be able to work under minimal supervision. Must have experience handling office equipment like printer/copier/fax machine. Proficiency in spoken / written English and Panjabi is required. Must have a valid visa status to work in USA.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT  

Job Description 

The Sikh Research Institute (SikhRI) is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization focused on developing educational resources for Sikhs to foster a Guru-inspired lifestyle. SikhRI is currently seeking to fill the position of Director of Development (DD). The successful candidate will lead SikhRI’s annual and endowment fundraising development activities. The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director (ED) and work closely with the Board on fundraising activities aimed at furthering SikhRI’s vision and mission. Compensation package (salary and benefits) will be commensurate with experience.
 
ROLE 

DD is responsible for creation, implementation, leading, coordinating and managing all fund raising efforts of SikhRI. DD collaborates with, engages, and supports the ED, the Board (Directors  & Advisors), staff and volunteers to identify, engage, cultivate and solicit donors and prospects. The Director provides leadership and creates good working relationships amongst stakeholders. DD brings demonstrated experience and success in expanding financial support from individuals (major gifts, planned giving and annual giving), foundations, corporations, membership organizations, and religious organizations (Gurduaras). DD works in a collaborative environment where passion, dedication, and the ability to consistently innovate are necessary to achieve goals. 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

·    Develop and implement a comprehensive and innovative fund raising plan from individual and institutional sources.
·    Develop a yearly and long-term strategy to cultivate funders, which includes solicitations by mail, electronic media and face-to-face interactions. Develop and Maintain donor databases.
·    Solicit increased grants, gifts, and sponsorships from new and continuing funders. Determine those relevant to SikhRI through ongoing research and evaluation, and cultivate those prospects that best align with SikhRI’s strategic short and long-term priorities and needs.
·    Responsible for submitting Letters of Intent, proposals and applications on behalf of SikhRI in a timely and consistent manner inclusive of developing concepts, gathering and formatting information and developing clear communications.
·    Work collaboratively and seamlessly with staff to identify new potential individual and institutional partners.
·    Coordinate with committees and volunteers on developing and implementing special events ensuring appropriate participation of those sponsors and partners.
·    Research and assist in developing plans for expanding SikhRI presence.
·    Oversee production of publicity materials (e.g. annual report) and other promotional material, in consultation with ED.
·    Prepare and implement reports for funders to support SikhRI work.
·    Maintain a current development report than can be provided to ED and the Board.

QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE

·    Bachelor’s degree required; five plus years of development experience.
·    Exceptional proficiency in researching, writing and editing skills.
·    Proven success in meeting and exceeding performance goals. Must have documented successful fund raising experience and a keen understanding of fundraising/development.
·    Strong performance orientation and skillful strategic thinking. Establishes clear expectations and continuously measures performance.
·    Ability to work through stringent deadlines with acute attention to detail is required. Maintains focus on priorities. Self-starter with the ability to manage time effectively.
·    Demonstrates excellence in both oral and written communications. Knowledge of external communications and cultivation techniques are essential.
·    A high degree of integrity in dealing with confidential donor and financial information.
·    Ability to coordinate logistics, correspondence, financial reports and printed materials.
·    Ability to coordinate and lead committee meetings.
·    Proficiency in MS Office and in donor database management. Strong analytical ability to retrieve data, analyze data and translate data into meaningful reports for stakeholders.
